Hand

Hand doctors are orthopedic surgeons and specialists who diagnose and treat injuries and problems that affect the hand specifically. Hand specialists have a deep level of understanding of how the hand functions, how it can become damaged, and how it's impacted by issues of the wrist, forearm, elbow, shoulder, and nerve problems.

The hand is made up of bones and cartilage as well as soft tissues like tendons, ligaments, and muscles. A hand surgeon or specialist, therefore, must have a high level of skill and experience to perform hand surgery or provide proper care involving these many small structures. Our hand care team at Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma is made up of surgeons and physicians who can offer comprehensive treatment for any hand and wrist injury or condition, from simple sprains or fractures to complex nerve damage.

Our team is comprised of board-certified specialists in orthopedics, including Dr. Wendy Emerson, Dr. Steven Hardage, Dr. Robert Marsh, and Dr. Jake Worsham, who are dedicated to recommending the best approaches for our patients, often considering non-surgical treatments first. In addition to our skilled team, we are proud to highlight our fellowship-trained surgeons in hand, wrist, and elbow areas, Dr. Brad Vogel and William Shelton. Their specialized training ensures that we offer a full range of procedures tailored to meet all your upper extremity needs, from non-surgical interventions to complex surgeries. Our commitment is to provide the highest quality care, focusing on treatments that best serve our patients' unique conditions.

Our Hand Doctors Care for Patients Just Like You

When a patient first notices pain, it’s common to wait to see if the pain will go away on its own. However, pain may not improve, and some hand injuries should be treated immediately, like a fracture. It’s important not to wait too long if you believe you have a problem in your upper extremity.

Our fellowship-trained hand specialists and orthopedic surgeons provide the expert care a patient needs, including imaging, such as our on-site X-rays and MRIs, as well as prescription medication, splinting, bracing, occupational therapy, and surgery. If the patient also has an elbow or wrist problem, like cubital or carpal tunnel syndrome, they can help the patient get the proper surgical or nonsurgical care.

If hand surgery is the treatment your doctor recommends, your orthopedic surgeon, backed by our entire hand treatment team, can expertly perform the surgery using our state-of-the-art equipment. This includes any type of hand surgery, such as fasciectomy, which is used to treat Dupuytren's contracture, as well as trigger finger release, tendon repair, knuckle joint replacement, microsurgery, nerve repair, or reconstruction surgery.

Our fellowship-trained hand surgeons and all of our dedicated orthopedic specialists and physicians at Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma go beyond simply delivering medical services. They are healthcare professionals who listen to your concerns, expertly answer your questions, and have dedicated their practices to helping people like you move forward and experience less pain and a better quality of life.
