Joint Revision

Every year, surgeons perform joint replacements on patients who can no longer be treated for osteoarthritis using nonsurgical approaches. After a prosthesis has been implanted during their joint replacement procedure, and after recovery and rehabilitation, the vast majority of patients experience a better quality of life. However, joint replacement for some people will not be the final surgery they need for their affected knee joint, hip joint, or other joint.

It’s important to know that many people who have joint replacement, such as knee replacement, may eventually need a second surgery called a revision arthroplasty procedure or revision surgery. Dedicated to delivering comprehensive care to keep patients moving, our joint revision specialists at Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma will understand every aspect of your joint condition and help you heal, recover, and advance.

With extensive training and experience in joint replacement and reconstructive surgery, our joint revision surgery team includes fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeons Dr. Christopher Browne, Dr. Sarat Kunapuli, and Dr. Ronald LaButti. Our surgical revision experts will develop a tailored, comprehensive treatment plan for every patient, using the surgery, techniques, and treatment approach that will best serve that patient. As board-certified orthopedic surgeons, our specialists can perform a full range of surgeries for all your joint needs.

Symptoms You May Be Having

Take note if you have any of these symptoms related to your knee, hip, or other affected artificial joint or implant. If so, schedule an appointment with one of our joint revision doctors.

  • A fracture is causing pain in the implant area
  • Feeling a rubbing or grinding sensation near the implant
  • Joint pain is beginning to reoccur, although it may feel different than the pain you had before your original joint replacement surgery
  • Your new knee joint, hip joint, or other implant feels like it is loosening
  • When you bear weight on your knee or hip implant, you feel unsteady
  • Your hip joint, knee, or other joint feels unstable, and you feel like there could be a dislocation

After an exam and assessing your existing prosthesis, your doctor may diagnose you with one of these conditions:

  • Advanced osteoarthritis
  • Bone loss
  • Cartilage degeneration
  • Fracture
  • Infection
  • Sports medicine Injury

Our Joint Revision Doctors Care for Patients Just Like You

When a patient first notices pain related to a prior knee replacement, hip replacement, or another implant, it’s common to wait to see if it will go away. However, any complication after surgery should be treated immediately and may require a revision procedure using a new prosthesis. It’s important not to wait too long if you believe you have a problem. This is especially true if you've already had knee replacement surgery or hip surgery and now you believe you might have an issue with your implant and need knee revision surgery or hip revision surgery.

If joint revision surgery is the treatment option your doctor recommends, our joint revision physicians, backed by our entire joint revision treatment team, can expertly perform the surgery using our state-of-the-art equipment. This includes revision hip replacement, revision knee replacement, and other surgical procedures to correct previous replacement surgeries and associated complications.

Our joint revision surgeons, joint replacement doctors, and all of our dedicated orthopedic surgeons and physicians at Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma go beyond simply delivering medical services. They are healthcare professionals who listen to your concerns, expertly answer your questions, and have dedicated their practices to helping people like you move forward and experience less pain, greater mobility, and an overall better quality of life.
